Private Well Water Testing
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recommends annual testing of any private drinking wells, which includes bacteriological testing. A nitrate test is also recommended for households with pregnant women and/or children under 6 months old. |
The City of Racine Public Health Department - Environmental Health Division has well water test kits available free of charge. Testing is performed by either the Kenosha County Division of Health or the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene. The test kits may be picked up at City Hall, 730 Washington Ave, in Room 1 during our new business hours.
Although the kits are free, there are fees associated with the laboratory tests. Costs vary depending upon which tests are requested. For more information about the kits, available tests, and/or fees, please contact the specific laboratory.
