     Main Street Bridge

The Main Street Bridge is located at the intersection of Main Street and the Root River. Main Street is also Wisconsin State Highway 32. As a result of its highway designation, all costs associated with operating the bridge are reimbursable from the State of Wisconsin. The bridge is a two span or double leaf bascule bridge. The bridge is four lanes wide. The bridge is manned 24 hours per day from April 1 of every year to December 1.

A significant drop in the number of lifts required at Main Street Bridge in 1996 was directly attributable to the closing of Main Street Bridge for reconstruction on July 8, 1996. The new Main Street Bridge was dedicated November 21, 1996. 1997 was its first season of operation. The new bridge has better clearance to allow more powerboats to pass underneath without requiring an opening. The bridge averages less than 5 minutes to complete an entire cycle.

The number of lifts and boats decreased about 15% when compared to 1998. This decrease can be partially attributed to falling water levels that allowed more powerboats the ability to go under the bridge

  • Schedule: The bridge is operated on a fixed 20-minute schedule. The bridge can be opened for boaters on the hour, 20 minutes past the hour and 40 minutes past the hour.

     State Street Bridge

The State Street Bridge is located at the intersection of State Street and the Root River. State Street Bridge is also funded 100% by the State of Wisconsin because it is part of State Highway 38. The bridge is four lanes wide. It is a single leaf bascule bridge with a 70-foot span. The bridge was constructed in 1989 by the State and replaced a two-leaf bascule bridge that had exceeded its useful life.

  • Schedule: The bridge is manned from approximately May 1 to November 10 and is manned 24 hours per day. The bridge is operated on demand by boaters on Root River.
