Where do I find out about current job openings with the City of Racine?
The City of Racine posts jobs on the City's
website, the bulletin board outside
the Human
Resources Department (City Hall, Room 204), and advertises in the Sunday
Racine Journal Times,
weekly in The
Voice, biweekly in the Insider News, and occasionally in the Sunday
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and
the
Kenosha News. In addition, positions are advertised at Workforce
Development, various web sites, community colleges and other agencies.
How do I apply for a job with the City of Racine?
Interested candidates
for an available position may appear in person at Room 204 of City Hall and
fill out a City application, or have a family member or friend pick one up. Applications
are also downloadable from this web site.
You must print out the application and either physically return it, mail it,
or fax it within the time frame stated in the posting or advertisement.
Resumes' are accepted, but all candidates must complete an employment
application either before or immediately after an interview. Except in
extremely rare circumstances, the City does not mail out applications.
Do you always notify applicants of their applications?
No. Only
applicants who are interviewed are notified of their status, either in writing
or by telephone.
If I am not interviewed, must I fill out another application for a
different job opening?
Yes. Although
the City retains all applications for at least one year, candidates for open
positions with the City are required to fill out an application for each
job that interests them.
Does the City of Racine take applications at any time?
No. A position must be available and advertised by the City before
applications will be accepted. It is always recommended that job seekers
watch for available jobs where and when we post or advertise.
Does the City of Racine have a residency requirement?
Yes
and no. Although residency within the City limits of Racine is
preferred for City employees, City Ordinance #19-91 states that only
Administrative Managers must reside within Racine City limits. All other
employees must, sixty (60) days from the completion of their probationary
period, establish residency within the State of Wisconsin. All employees
must maintain residency within this area during their employment with the City. |
