Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find out about current job openings with the City of Racine?

The City of Racine posts jobs on the City's website, the bulletin board outside the Human Resources Department (City Hall, Room 204), and advertises in the Sunday Racine Journal Times, weekly in The Voice, biweekly in the Insider News, and occasionally in the Sunday Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and the Kenosha News.  In addition, positions are advertised at Workforce Development, various web sites, community colleges and other agencies.

How do I apply for a job with the City of Racine?

Interested candidates for an available position may appear in person at Room 204 of City Hall and fill out a City application, or have a family member or friend pick one up.  Applications are also downloadable from this web site.   You must print out the application and either physically return it, mail it, or fax it within the time frame stated in the posting or advertisement.  Resumes' are accepted, but all candidates must complete an employment application either before or immediately after an interview.  Except in extremely rare circumstances, the City does not mail out applications.

Do you always notify applicants of their applications?

No.  Only applicants who are interviewed are notified of their status, either in writing or by telephone.

If I am not interviewed, must I fill out another application for a different job opening?

Yes.  Although the City retains all applications for at least one year, candidates for open positions with the City are required to fill out an application for each job that interests them.

Does the City of Racine take applications at any time?

No.  A position must be available and advertised by the City before applications will be accepted.  It is always recommended that job seekers watch for available jobs where and when we post or advertise.

Does the City of Racine have a residency requirement?

Yes and no.  Although residency within the City limits of Racine is preferred for City employees, City Ordinance #19-91 states that only Administrative Managers must reside within Racine City limits.  All other employees must, sixty (60) days from the completion of their probationary period, establish residency within the State of Wisconsin.  All employees must maintain residency within this area during their employment with the City.
