The City of Racine Public Health Department participates in both the Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) team and the Child Death Review (CDR) team for Racine County.
The FIMR and CDR teams consist of individuals from local health and fire departments, law enforcement, hospitals, the District Attorney's Office, the State Department of Health Services, the County Medical Examiner's Office, Child Protective Services, the Children's Health Alliance of Wisconsin, social workers, and private physicians.
Both teams meet quarterly to review the deaths, and circumstances surrounding those deaths, of those who lived within Racine County. The FIMR team focuses on fetal losses and infant deaths to age 1, while the CDR team reviews deaths of those from 1 through 20 years of age. Meetings are held with the intent of developing prevention efforts for local communities, as well as monitoring the implementation of those efforts.
The Child Death Review Team has been instrumental in improvements made at North Beach following the drownings of three children. Watch the video below to learn what has been accomplished:
